Whatever the appropriate saying might be, there’s no denying that a hot new handset isn’t officially inaugurated into the mobile world without a proper hardware tear-down. The BlackBerry 8220 Pearl, the first BlackBerry flip-phone, is not exception. What you see here is the meticulous dissection of RIM’s first clamshell handset.

Ever since we first laid eyes on the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl - you know, back when we knew it as the BlackBerry KickStart - we’ve been waiting for some brave soul to get down and dirty with the flip-phone and post pictures for our collective enjoyment. Thanks to The Asylum, we’ve scored those pics.

The hardware dissection reveals that the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl opts for some cheapy plastic in place of the high-quality materials that we’ve come to love on the BlackBerry Bold. The hinge mechanism is said to be a bit loose, although our own hands-on experience proved otherwise.

There’s not much to be learned from the BlackBerry 8220 Pearl tear-down, but if exposed handset-guts are your type of thing… enjoy.
