Force Android RC 30 update on your T-Mobile G1 and keep root access!

This is starting to turn into a cat-and-mouse game akin to the the back-and-forths we’ve seen between Apple and the iPhone jailbreak underground community. This war has the underground scene always looking for new security exploits that will allow them to gain root access to their handset’s file-system. On the other side, the powers that be are always working to seal whatever security holes were used by the “jailbreak” community.

Meebo goes Android

Meebo has announced that their popular all-in-one instant messaging tool is now available for T-Mobile G1 users through Android Market. The application allows anyone with a Meebo account, or an account on one of the popular IM services to chat with their buddies while on-the-go.

Just like the desktop web version, Meebo for Android gives users access to all of their IM accounts through a single login and single buddy list. In addition, the Android app supports real-time notifications, alerting users of new instant messages through the status bar. This works even when Meebo runs in the background.

Unlock-TMobileG1.com offers G1 unlocking service for $22.99. Just send them the money and your G1′ 15-digit IMEI code (key in *#06# to get it), then they will send you back the unlock code. D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure

The D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure, when used with internal SATA drives, enables you to share documents, files, and digital media such as music, photos, and video with everyone on the home or office network. Remotely accessing files through the Internet is also possible with the built-in FTP server. Whether you are allowing access locally or over the Internet, keep data safe by only giving rights to specific users or groups. When configuring the DNS-323, you can create users and groups and assign them to folders with either read or read/write permissions. This is ideal for an office environment with employee-specific sensitive data or for the home where you can ensure your children will only have access to age appropriate material.

Report: Atari sues game site for publishing review without permission

Atari is suing game review website 4player for publishing a review of its latest Alone in the Dark game without permission.

As the site did not receive a copy of the game from the publisher, Atari believes 4player obtained it illegally and seeks undisclosed restitution. 4players says the game was legally leaked to it from a retailer. It awarded AiTD 68 percent, a grim total on the industry standard "7 to 9" rating scale used by gaming journalists.

Will Gadgets Make Knowledge Obsolete?

I’ve spent the last few weeks away from the internet dealing with life issues. In a short time away it seems like things have changed so rapidly. In a recent ComputerWorld article they make some interesting points about how not to long ago the internet was unknown, rapid access to knowledge was limited to libraries, and government archives, GPS was unheard of. Now things are changing at lightning speed and access to data and knowledge could become obsolete with new and fancier gadgets.

VLC media player ported to iPhone/iTouch

Whooo! VLC media player, which tends to be one of the first things I install on any new system, has been ported over for use on jailbroken iPhones.

The crazy-talented ZodTTD (the guy behind snes4iphone) has released a beta version of the port, vlc4iphone, which allows for drag-and-drop playback of a number of media formats not otherwise supported on the iPhone.

Good news: It supports playback of XviD, h264, MPEG4, FLAC, 3GP, MP3, MPEG2, AVI, with more on the way.
